Who We Are
Amy Jo Scott Frischling, MS, CCC-SLP
Practice Owner
I’m a licensed speech-language pathologist and former teacher of the speech and hearing handicapped (TSHH) with over 25 years of experience, specializing in speech-language evaluations and special education advising.
At the start of my career, I worked in preschools, elementary, and middle schools for children with special needs ranging from language processing delays to autism to selective mutism and everything in between. Eventually, I transitioned to a special education group that provided an array of services to children through the New York City Department of Education. I travelled all over Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Roosevelt Island, providing therapy to children in their schools, their homes, and even in one case, their local park!
I founded this practice in the late-1990s when I began complementing my full-time work with after-school private therapy and evaluations for children ages 2-18. As my client list grew, I left the therapy group to focus full-time on my private practice.
After my third child was born with a serious medical condition, I put my work on hold to focus full-time on my children. In addition to my youngest’s medical needs, it had become clear that our eldest child, who had been receiving support services in preschool, needed more educational support. Thanks to my background working in schools and with children receiving services through the Department of Education, I was well-versed in how to identify first-class evaluators, service providers, and fight for the services he needed and deserved.
As our son with learning needs approached middle school, it became apparent that providing outside services to help him through regular education was no longer enough - he needed a full-time special education setting. The road was challenging but we were lucky to have support from friends who were ahead of us on this journey through special ed. We visited lots of schools, met with lawyers, attended IEP meetings, and became persistent and successful advocates for our son.
In addition to professional experience as a speech-language pathologist, I also served on the Board of Trustees at his special education school in Connecticut for 11 years. In that time, I came to deeply understand the inter-workings of many schools throughout the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) and beyond. I’ve come to know heads of schools, administrators, faculty, and families at schools all across the Northeast and Mid Atlantic regions. Now, I can share that knowledge with you!
Whether your child needs a speech-language evaluation, you are at the beginning of your journey into the world of learning support or special education, or you have a child who has been receiving services but are looking for different support, reach out and let me help you.
